Limp & long casting, but.....

Saw this line on sale and read the great reviews on this site and thought I would give it a try - I ordered 2 spools each of 6 and 12lb. Limp and smooth casting on my spinning and bait casting reels. I also like the reduced diameter compared to other mono lines for longer casts and less visibility. I had very high hopes for this stuff last spring. But I was soon disappointed. While casting performance and manageability were great, Both the 6 & 12 lb. kept breaking! At the knot, in the middle and everywhere else! Mind you I was fishing in open water with no weeds or rock, either. It would break with a fish on or during a cast. I used a Crawford figure eight knot for decades with Trilene with zero issues, but I experimented with a couple of the newer knots (Palomar, Trilene knot & Uni Knot) with the same results. I then trolled the internet for reviews on this line and found several experiences like mine – so it was not an isolated incident. I did received a full refund, no questions asked…

Quality Mono

Although braid and fluoro are all the rage these days, I still find myself using mono more than anything. I typically bounce between Suffix Elite and Trilene XL but gave Sunline a try after reading a lot of positive reviews and finding it on sale on ALF. First thing to mention is that it's noticeably thinner than competitors of the same rating (.012 diameter vs. .014 Trilene and .015 Suffix at 14lbs.). The thin diameter definitely improves memory and all around manageability. I haven't had a chance to give it a thorough workout, but based on a few short trips to local ponds, it seems to hold up and be as tough as the others. It may be my new "go to" mono.
